Tamil Nadu forms panel to frame new state education policy

MP Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has announced the formation of a high-level panel to frame a new National Education Policy (SEP). The panel was led by Dr Murugesan, former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.

The 13-member committee includes experts from various fields, including academics and a state planning commission that includes Viswanathan Anand, Indian chess grandmaster, TM Krishna, author and activist, and L Jawaharnesan, former vice- Chancellor of Saveetha University. The panel will submit its recommendations to frame the new SEP within a year, an official statement quoted the chief minister as saying.

In the 2021-22 budget, the government said it would set up a committee of experts to frame the SEP according to the ancient culture of Tamil Nadu and its current position and future goals.

R Ramanujam, Retired Professor, Institute of Mathematical Science, Sulthan Ismail and R Sreenivasan, Members of the State Planning Commission, Aruna Ratnam, Former UNICEF Education Specialist, S Ramakrishnan, Tamil Writer, Tulsidas, Educators and S Madasamy, Principal of Government Panchayat Union Middle School, Kichankuppam, Nagapattinam District, R Balu and Jayashree Damodaran, Agaram Foundation are among the other committee members.
