Missionaries help the Community activist in Thurso

The two missionaries place new trees on a plot near the Thurso pond.

A community activist from Thurso spoke of his joy at being helped in his green thumb activities by two young missionaries from the United States.

Alexander Glasgow is well known for bringing color to Thurso with his roses and flower baskets, but he also planted trees for the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative as part of this year’s Jubilee celebrations.

Latter-day Saint (LDS) missionaries, Sisters Alana Hansen from Arizona and Sadie Yardley from Utah, recently arrived in Thurso and are doing various good deeds in and around town as part of their mission.

Glasgow said: “It’s always a pleasure to work with LDS missionaries. Whenever they arrive in a new community, their first wish is to be remembered with good deeds.

“The Hansen and Yardley sisters will be remembered for years to come for the Woodlands Trust trees which they are helping to plant to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. This was at the boating pond courtesy of the landowner . ” Mr Glasgow said he is currently insuring local schools to provide more of the Arboretum.

Sister Yardley previously worked in a garden center at her home in Utah and was able to bring her skills learned there to build some of the hanging baskets now on Rotterdam Street.

“All they have done improved green and blue health in Thurso,” added Mr. Glasgow.

The young LDS missionaries left a message for the newspaper which was relayed by Mr Glasgow which read: “We are Sister Yardley and Sister Hansen, missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“We have been assigned to serve in Thurso to teach Christ and serve the community with love. We love Thurso and the people who reside here. We have had the opportunity to work alongside community members to uplift the village in supporting individuals and striving to make the world more beautiful.We are here to serve, love and teach as Christ did, let us know if you see us.
