Disney heiress criticizes company for Harvey Weinstein

(MENAFN) Activist Abigail Disney has urged the company to accept responsibility for ignoring the predatory actions of disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein. She is a vocal opponent of the company and a frequent critic.

In an interview with Rolling Stone published Thursday, she claimed “Harvey was an open secret,” or rather, there were no secrets at all.

“Everyone knew what Harvey was, and that was fine as long as everyone saw him as, ‘Well, that’s how business is done.’ Nobody had the moral clarity to step in and say, ‘Well, not here. We don’t do it that way here,'” she said.

“I think Disney needs to step up. When you’ve done a bad thing, even if it’s just by stepping back and letting something happen, it’s still a bad thing to do. And you have to take your responsibilities,” the activist stressed.

Disney owned Miramax, Weinstein’s production and distribution company, from 1993 to 2010. Numerous women have accused the producer of rape, sexual assault and harassment during his long and successful career in the industry entertainment, including during this period.
