Death of Donald Pinto, community leader and former president of MCCP Muscat

Muscat, Sep 28: The Mangalorean community in the Sultanate of Oman was shocked to hear the news of the sudden and untimely death of Donald Pinto, the former president of the Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish (MCCP Muscat – Sts Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi), member from the MCCP Central Committee – Muscat, a dynamic and award-winning member of the Toastmasters International Club, a prominent leader and community activist on Tuesday, September 27. According to reliable sources, Donald Pinto was on his way back to his residence in Muscat from Canada after concluding a family trip by attending a family wedding ceremony with his wife Eulalia Pinto.

Donald Peter Norbert was born in Falnir of Milagres Pparish, Mangaluru on February 23, 1957. His parents were the late Felix Pinto and the late Lilian Pinto of Milagres Parish. Donald’s father was a famous Mangaluru lawyer, served as a town councilor for 27 years, many years as vice-president of the Mangalorean Catholic Co-operative Bank, vice-president of the parish council of Milagres and president of the company Saint Vincent de Paul. .

Donald completed his primary education at Milagres Primary School, Mangaluru and graduated from St Aloysius College, Mangaluru. He successfully completed his Masters from Mangalore University and Business Management from the prestigious University of London as well as a Diploma in Business Administration. He joined Bank Muscat SAOG and served in various places like Nizwa, Fanja, Sumail, Kasab, Al Khuwair, Madinat Al Qaboos as Branch Manager and then as Senior Manager. His total service at Banque Muscat SAOG was 30 years. Later, he joined Oman Data Park, a subsidiary of Omantel as HR & Purchasing senior manager.

Donald Pinto is known as one of the most influential, charismatic and inspirational leaders of the Konkani community in Muscat, has helped community events and members in their difficult times. He served at the Mangalor Catholic Parish Center (MCCP – Oman) as President in 1999 – 2000 and 2003 – 2004 and was the senior member of the committee for over 15 years. He was an active member of Sts Peter and Paul Church and also served as Vice President of the Parish Council. After moving his residence to Ghala, he was also very active in the Church of the Holy Spirit – Ghala and supported the spiritual activities of the church as a reader.

Donald Pinto was one of the active members of the Toastmasters International Club – achieving his DTM. He was one of the distinguished umpires of the Toastmasters International Club and won several competitions and accolades.

In 1981 Donald married Eulalia Florence of Milagres Parish and they have three children, Daniel, Deborah and David. Daniel was married in Hebil and Deborah in Shelton. Donald and Eula have five grandchildren and they are Gabriel, Shelby, Deanne, Eleanor & Christine.

Dony, a pet name of Donald Pinto, was a stalwart of the parish’s Mangalorean Catholic Center – MCCP Oman. He was a dynamic and caring personality with a selfless contribution to the Konkani community.

The funeral will be held at Milagres Church, Mangaluru.
